Curatif Pina Colada Cocktail x2

This Summer we’re keeping it strictly P.C. Strictly, Piña Colada that is.

A Mai Tai is synonymous with the Pacific islands (Hawaii and Tahiti can duke it out over the exact origin). A Negroni? That’s Italy in a glass. And when we want to sail away to the Caribbean we can only think “Piña Colada”. The Puerto Ricans have a whole day devoted to the custom of pineapple, strained after all.

The legend of the Pina Colada begins in the 1800s with Roberto Cofresí y Ramírez de Arellano. This wealthy Puerto Rican nobleman lost his fortune and turned to piracy (as you do) transforming into the Robin Hood of the West Indies. El Pirata Cofresí would serve a concoction of pineapple, coconut and rum to his crew to lift their spirits. And so the idea sailed along until the 1950s when Coco Lopez - a local creamy coconut syrup - was invented. With this convenient ingredient, the cocktail experienced a mid-century revival with several bartenders laying claim to the modern-day recipe.

Fast forward to the future. Exclamations of “eureka!” have recently been heard emanating from the alchemists - think of them like oompa loompas only less problematic - that live in the Curatif cocktail labratory. They have finally struck (liquid) gold. They’ve cracked the Piña Colada code like the shell of a coconut. The latest incarnation of our elusive Piña Colada has arrived.
