Celebrating Australian Voices: The 2026 Stella Prize Longlist has Arrived!

Today is a big day for the Australian literary community. The 2026 Stella Prize longlist has officially been announced, and it is a breathtaking collection of 12 works that celebrate the "transformative power of memory and truth."

At Booxies, our mission has always been to champion local stories. This year’s Stella longlist is particularly exciting because it breaks traditional boundaries—proving that great storytelling lives just as much in a collection of poetry or a graphic novel as it does in a classic work of fiction.

Why We Love the Stella Prize

The Stella Prize is more than just an award; it’s a movement that amplifies voices that have historically been sidelined. This year, the judging panel, chaired by Sophie Gee and featuring familiar names like Benjamin Law and Jaclyn Crupi. Sifted through 212 entries to find the 12 books that best reflect the "freshness, wit, and vigour" of Australian writing today.

Booxies’ Top 3 Stella Picks

With such a diverse range of talent on the list, it is hard to choose, but here are three books we think would make a stunning centrepiece for your next gift box:

  1. Wait Here by Lucy Nelson: A compelling debut novel that explores the complexities of contemporary life and the quiet tensions that define us. This is the perfect pick for a reader who loves sharp, character-driven fiction and a relaxing cup of tea.
